Inclusion and Special Educational Needs

The new SEN Code of Practice has now been implemented. The previous staging process has been superseded by the terms: School Action and School Action Plus.

Pupils with Special Educational Needs are helped within the normal classroom environment or by being withdrawn to work where there is less distraction, with school funded Teaching Assistants. Advice and support are provided from Advisory Teachers, Educational Psychologists and other agencies where appropriate.

Teaching Assistant and Pupil We have Teaching Assistants who work in school mainly with our School Action Plus pupils but may work with other groups of children. Miss Jones, our Inclusion Mentor, works with targeted groups of children depending on their individual needs as and when they arise. Ms Bowey also works with specifically targeted children completing intervention programmes focusing mainly on literacy and numeracy.

Our Policy for Special Educational Needs is available to look at if you would like more information. Our Special Needs Co-ordinators are Miss Lauderdale (Foundation Stage and KS1) and Mrs Campbell (KS2), they would be happy to speak with you about general issues related to special needs if the class teacher is not able to answer your questions.
