We look forward to a happy and supportive relationship with all of our parents so that we can work together in the best interests of the children. Parents and other adults are more than welcome to take part in the life of the school and we always have a number of these adults around school helping out in a variety of ways including listening to readers, knitting, working with small groups of children or accompanying groups of children on visits.
With the safety of our pupils in mind, we do ask that any adults helping in school are Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checked. We are more than happy to arrange this check for helpers—please call in and see Mrs Watson for a CRB form.
We are always very keen to listen and act upon parents views for the best interests of our pupils. We regularly ask for verbal and written feedback from parents and welcome your suggestions. We try hard to promote our school as a centre for lifelong learning and look towards running courses for parents including parent and child ICT courses.
Good home/school links are vital and we aim to communicate with parents in writing at regular intervals. At Newsham First School parents receive monthly school newsletters, half termly class newsletters (highlighting the areas of the curriculum the children will be covering) and an annual written report about the progress their children are making. Parents are also welcome to speak to class teachers at any time if they have queries or concerns; we do , however, recommend that you arrange a convenient time with Mrs Watson.
We hold parents evenings in the Autumn and Spring terms to discuss your child’s progress and also welcome parents to school assemblies throughout the year. Mrs Armstrong or Mr Heeley also look forward to welcoming you at the school gate as often as possible - please feel free to speak to them about any ideas you have, concerns, queries or even just the weather!
