We have a kitchen on site here at Newsham and we cook the food daily as needed. The meals are nutritious and fresh produce is used. The Local Education Authority decide on the weekly menu which is on a three week cycle. Mrs. Watson has copies of this menu in the office for any parents who wish to have a copy. Reception parents will find copies outside their child’s class.
Payment for weekly dinners should be paid on the first day of the week or the first day your child is back to school after illness. You may pay by cash or cheque. Cheques should be made payable to ‘Northumberland County Council’. Please send the correct amount in a sealed envelope or container with your child’s name and class number clearly marked on it. If your child is absent through the week a credit will be given.
If you think your child is entitled to free meals please collect a form from the school office or Northumberland County Council, County Hall, Morpeth, NE61 2EF. Mrs. Watson will be happy to help you with any enquiries about free school meals.
Children who do not have a school meal may bring a packed lunch. Please ensure that packed lunches are brought to school in a secure container labelled with your child’s name and class and with appropriate food hygiene precautions e.g. sandwiches wrapped in foil or cling film.
Water is available if your child requires it, but you may like to supply a drink. We ask for this to be provided in a plastic flask or bottle or other safe container.
In the interest of health and safety, we would ask that children do not bring cans or glass bottles. They should not bring fizzy drinks or sweets, as we encourage healthy food.
If your child forgets his or her packed lunch we will try and contact you. If we are unable to do so we will supply a school lunch and ask you to reimburse us later.
Mrs. Watson will send out milk forms well before the end of each term to apply for milk for the following term. On the letter is a deadline by which milk money must come into school. Money after this deadline will be sent back and your child will not receive milk at the beginning of the following term. The price of milk termly is £7.00.
Again, you can pay cash or cheque, cheques made payable to ‘Northumberland County Council’. Money should be sent in an envelope or container clearly marked with your child’s name and class.
If your child receives free school lunches they automatically receive free school milk. Mrs. Watson will know which children receive free milk in school.
