Road Safety

We actively encourage children to walk to school. Children and parents should not walk through the car park.

We ask parents who come in cars to respect the highway code and not park on the yellow markings.

Please do not park in front of drives or gates, particularly in Brockwell Court. The management of the New Delaval Working Men’s Club allow us the use of their car park located at the rear. Please do not park near the Crossing Patrol as this can be dangerous.

In Year 1 the children are visited by a representative from County Hall, who takes them out of school in small groups, with several other adult helpers, and shows the children how to cross the road safely. This scheme is called Kerb Craft.

Safe Collection of Pupils

We expect all pupils, up to and including Year 2, to be collected by an adult at the end of the school day. Class teachers bring pupils out of school and only allow pupils to leave when they have seen the adult collecting them. Any pupils that have not been collected are taken to the school office where parents are contacted.

Key Stage 2 pupils are allowed to walk home alone but we must receive written consent from parents.

We ask that adults arrive promptly to collect their children and wait on the school yard in a place where they can be seen by the class teacher. This ensures the safety of our pupils.
