Our aim is for children to become more confident in using visual and tactile elements and materials and processes to communicate what they see, feel and think. We often use the work of other artists as a stimulus for the work our children do.

Through art and design our children are encouraged to develop their creativity
and imagination. Children are encouraged to build on skills to develop
their control of materials, tools and techniques. We develop our children’s
critical awareness of the roles and purposes of art, craft and design in
different times and cultures.

We provide our pupils with opportunities to work with a range of materials
including wood, clay, textiles and food. They are encouraged to research, design,
make and evaluate using a range of tools and techniques. Pupils are often encouraged
to bring in materials from home. Old items that can be disassembled to help
research different ideas may be asked for! DT projects at Newsham include making
money containers, moving monsters, healthy sandwiches and torches.
